our commitment to well-rounded child development
OUR PHILOSOPHY
Foundation Academy is a family owned and operated Preschool & Child Development Center. We seek to partner with families; the early foundations of child development begin at home. It is our goal to build strong foundations in the lives of children with Christian-based programs by providing the highest standard of early childhood education.
Our approach implements research driven programs tailored to the early learning environment to promote development, prioritizing:
Phonemic Awareness
Reading Readiness
STEAM Exploration
Social Development through Play
Active Learning
Kids are active learners – they perform experiments and make observations to learn about the world around them, acting similar to a small scientist (Piaget’s Theory of Cognitive Development). Child development is fluid and occurs in 4 stages, emphasizing the importance of building on previous learned ideas to gain new knowledge and adapt to new information.
At Foundation Academy, we currently use the Christian-based ABEKA curriculum. Incorporating Piaget’s theory into practice, our curriculum practices a spiral technique of learning, knowing that each time a student encounters a topic, he or she learns more about the topic, expands their knowledge, and improves their skill level.
Phonics Based
Focusing on our four main objectives: phonemic awareness, reading readiness, STEAM exploration, and social development through play; our curriculum allows students to learn in a teacher-led environment. Our curriculum blends phonics and whole language in order to address the various learning styles of the children we teach.
Customized Learning
Foundation Academy is also currently in the process of designing our own blended curriculum using key concepts from: Creative Curriculum, ABEKA, Reggio Emilio, Handwriting Without Tears, and Singapore Math Curriculum. We believe that children develop at different rates, and we can support them best by creating a customized framework.
Our hope is the combination of different teaching and learning methods will allow us to leverage the fundamental approaches used in other curriculum to support the development of children who are well-rounded physically, emotionally, academically, and spiritually.
